Xavi defends Gerardo Martino

Barcelona midfielder Xavi defends boss Gerardo Martino following Saturday's 3-1 loss to Real Sociedad.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi has defended under-fire boss Gerardo Martino following the club's 3-1 loss to Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Martino was criticised for his team selection at San Sebastian, but Xavi, like his teammate Andres Iniesta, has insisted that the entire team are to blame.

"People always look for scapegoats. The gaffer has been made to carry the can and that's not fair. We win and lose as a team," he told Marca.

"The coach is self-critical and that is to his credit. We are in pole position and competitive. We are going to be optimistic in the dressing room."

Barcelona are currently three points off top spot in La Liga.
