Franz Beckenbauer: 'Jurgen Klopp would fit in well at Bayern Munich'

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer backs Jurgen Klopp to replace Pep Guardiola should the Spaniard leave the club this summer, claiming he is "definitely" an option.

Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has expressed his belief that outgoing Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp could well succeed Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena.

The 47-year announced earlier this month that he intends to stand down as manager of Die Borussen at the end of the campaign, following a seven-year spell at the club.

Klopp is widely expected to take up a job in English football, despite playing down speculation earlier this week, although Beckenbauer is confident that the eccentric German would "fit very well at Bayern".

"Klopp is definitely an option at Bayern. The question is, how long Guardiola will be in Munich. I hope for a long time, but Klopp would be considered," he is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"Of course I could imagine Klopp as Guardiola's successor. When I was president, we often talked about Klopp and believe he would fit very well at Bayern.

"I can't imagine that Guardiola would leave in 2016. He likes Munich. He has had success with the team and he knows that he can succeed in the future. He has everything he wants."

Klopp has won six major trophies since taking charge at Signal Iduna Park in 2008, including two Bundesliga titles.
