Preview: Mainz 05 vs. Bayern Munich

Sports Mole looks ahead to champions Bayern Munich's trip to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich can maintain their unbeaten start to the season on Friday when they make the trip to Mainz 05.

Pep Guardiola's side currently have an imposing lead at the top of the standings thanks to 13 victories and three draws from their opening 16 games.

The reigning champions, who last dropped points nearly two months ago, have won their previous seven matches in the league.

Meanwhile, Mainz head into the game in 11th position following an inconsistent run of form.

The home side have failed to win any of their last eight matches in the top flight, leaving them dangerously close to the relegation places.

Bayern clinched the Bundesliga title in this fixture last season as a 2-0 victory saw them crowned champions with a record seven games to play.

Robert Lewandowski and Xabi Alonso are doubtful for the visitors, while David Alaba, Philipp Lahm, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara all remain sidelined. Nikolce Noveski is expected to miss out for Mainz.
