Bolton Wanderers edge past Brighton & Hove Albion

Marcos Alonso's goal on 20 minutes is enough for Bolton Wanderers to get the better of Brighton & Hove Albion at home.

Bolton Wanderers have registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in their Championship game at the Reebok Stadium.

Tomasz Kuszczak was called into action as early as the seventh minute when he was forced to deny David Ngog's effort.

Two minutes later Ashley Barnes headed wide, before Andy Lonergan turned away Andrew Crofts's shot for a corner.

Lonergan stood strong between the Bolton goal again on 20 minutes, this time foiling Barnes.

A minute later the home side surged ahead, as Marcos Alonso fired home from outside the area into the bottom-right corner of the Brighton goal.

Chris Eagles could have doubled Bolton's advantage just two minutes later, but Kuszczak made a good save.

Moreno David Lopez made an attempt from distance five minutes into the second half but in vain, and minutes later Wayne Bridge blocked his effort from 30 yards.

Brighton ended the game with 10 men as Barnes was sent off for dissent in injury time.
