The visitors made a bright start as Ashley Barnes cut through the Newcastle defence before firing a shot that cannoned off the post within the first two minutes.

Moments later, Yoan Gouffran threatened at the other end when he pushed forward and let rip with a rising drive that Tom Heaton had to palm away.

Indeed, the hosts took the lead at the quarter-hour mark when Jack Colback's corner kick fell to Steven Taylor, who made no mistake nodding home from close range.

Just five minutes later, however, the Clarets were level through an own goal, Paul Dummett heading the ball over his goalkeeper and into the net.

Colback then restored Newcastle's lead midway through the first half when Fabricio Coloccini and Moussa Sissoko combined to set up Colback, who struck a great shot that went into the goal off the inside of the post.

Burnley came out after the break all guns blazing and struck the Magpies' woodwork three times in 20 minutes through Barnes, Danny Ings and Ben Mee.

Sean Dyche's charges made their pressure pay off as they levelled for the second time in the game, Ings nodding home a Michael Kightly cross after 66 minutes.

However, it didn't take long for Newcastle to find themselves back in front in the 78th minute, with Sissoko drilling home at the back post after Adam Armstrong had flicked on Ayoze Perez's cross.

Nevertheless, Burnley secured a dramatic point late on when George Boyd fired a low effort into the bottom corner.
