Result: Man Utd 3-3 Basel

Manchester United are held by Basel in their Champions League clash.

Manchester United have had to settle for a point in their Champions League clash with Basel.

Danny Welbeck gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead just after a quarter of an hour's play, scoring twice within as many minutes. His first, also his debut goal in the tournament, went in off the woodwork following an assist from Ryan Giggs, who also went on to set up the second.

Despite a 2-0 deficit going into the second half, Basel found themselves even after an hour due to efforts from Fabian Frei and Alexander Frei in the 58th and 60th minute respectively.

The latter created a lead from a penalty after 75 minutes before Ashley Young delivered a final equaliser in the last minute of normal time from Nani's cross.

The British side are now third in the group with two points, while Basel and Benfica each have four.
