Chelsea will end their interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney if they have not agreed a deal by August 26, according to reports.
The Blues have held an interest in the 27-year-old throughout the summer, with Chelsea known to have made at least two bids for the England international.
However, according to The Express, the Stamford Bridge outfit will seek an alternative if they can not sign Rooney by August 26, which is the same date that the respective sides meet at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
If Chelsea fail in their pursuit of Rooney, they are expected to push forward with a move for Anzhi Makhachkala frontman Samuel Eto'o.
