Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho plays down speculation that he will spend big this summer following his return to the club.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports that he will spend big this summer following his return to the club.

It was confirmed on Monday that the 50-year-old would be taking charge at Stamford Bridge for a second time after leaving in 2007.

The Blues have already been linked with a number of players since Mourinho's appointment was announced, but the Portuguese insists that he wants to achieve results through hard work.

"We have to improve the team, but when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea will spend," he told ChelseaTV. "When I say improve the team, I mean through work.

"My work has to improve players and improve the team. If I don't do that I am not happy with myself."

Mourinho has penned a four-year contract with the Europa League champions.
