Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri suggests that the club may not be active in January, with the Italian instead preferring to try to improve his current players.

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has suggested that he is not keen to enter the January transfer market.

The Blues have enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign, with Sarri's only defeat since his arrival at Stamford Bridge coming against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Chelsea continue to be linked with new signings at the midway point of the season, but Sarri has indicated that he would prefer to focus on trying to improve his current squad of players.

The Italian is quoted by The Independent as saying: "I didn't ask anything about it to my club at the moment because at the moment I think we can stay with these players and be competitive. Maybe not for the top but we have to try to arrive close to the top.

"I have to think I only have to help these players to improve. It is too easy to go into the market for every problem. I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve.

"I have to think to improve my players. It is my work, I think. The market, there is the club. I can say to the club my opinion about what I think I need but my job is to try to improve my players."

Sarri has used 19 different players in the Premier League this season, while another four have been involved in other competitions.
