Roberto Martinez signs five-year Everton extension

Everton announce that manager Roberto Martinez has penned a fresh five-year deal with the club.

Everton have announced that manager Roberto Martinez has penned a fresh five-year deal with the club.

Martinez, who replaced David Moyes last summer, has been rewarded for a successful maiden campaign with the Toffees, whom he led to Europa League qualification via a fifth-place Premier League finish.

The Spaniard's new contract will see him remain at Goodison Park until the end of the 2018-19 season.

"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to make a further commitment to Everton," he told the club's official website.

"I loved my first season at the club. I could not be more proud of the way Everton performed throughout the entire season and the memories we were able to make together."

Everton finished with their highest points total in the Premier League era last season - 72.
