Everton have reportedly put the wheels in motion for Idrissa Gueye to sign a new contract at the club.
The 28-year-old has become an integral part of the Toffees' midfield since his £7m switch from Aston Villa last year, making 39 Premier League appearances and contributing one goal and an assist.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton are wary of other clubs sniffing around the Senegal international and as a result want to offer him a new contract that puts him among the club's highest earners.
Ronald Koeman's side have endured a difficult start to the new season, winning just two of their first six league matches.
The club have faced Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United during that run.
