Brede Hangeland devastated by Fulham relegation

Brede Hangeland describes Fulham's relegation from the Premier League as the "lowest day" of his career.

Fulham captain Brede Hangeland has described the club's relegation from the Premier League as the "lowest day" of his career.

The Cottagers were condemned to life in the Championship on Saturday as they were thrashed 4-1 by Stoke City.

Despite being hugely disappointed with the team's fortunes, Hangeland admits that the squad have not been good enough over the course of the year to stay in the top flight.

"Without a doubt, this is the lowest day of my career," he told the club's official website. "It's very hard to take.

"I've been here for six-and-a-half years and I can barely explain how I feel, it's extremely disappointing. We all know what's happened and it's a very tough day as a player.

"The warning signs have been there for a while and we haven't managed to put it right."

Fulham finish their campaign on Sunday when they welcome Crystal Palace to Craven Cottage.
