Germany assistant manager Hansi Flick: Lukas Podolski can improve in attack

Germany assistant manager Hansi Flick is pleased with Lukas Podolski's defensive efforts so far in Euro 2012, but believes that the forward can have a say in attack.

Germany assistant manager Hansi Flick is pleased with Lukas Podolski's defensive efforts so far in Euro 2012, but believes that the forward can have a say in attack.

Podolski has been criticised for his impact going forward, but Flick stressed the work he does to help out at the back.

"There is still room for improvement in his offensive game," Flick said.

"We obviously want to leave our mark on the offence as well but the teams that we have played so far were very attacking teams and we had to put the emphasis on the defence."

Podolski agreed to an extent, but was also keen to point out his defensive orders.

"It is clear that people expect more from me in attack. I expect more from me as well. But in the first two games my job was to secure the back. It was a tactical order by the coach which I fulfilled," Podolski said.

Podolski will reach 100 caps for Germany if he plays against Denmark on Sunday.
