James Vaughan hat-trick sinks Bournemouth

James Vaughan scores a hat trick as Huddersfield Town beat Bournemouth 5-1.

A James Vaughan hat-trick has helped Huddersfield Town to a 5-1 win over Bournemouth this afternoon.

The former Everton striker got his seventh goal of the season from the penalty spot in the second half.

A good start from the hosts led to an early goal from Adam Hammill, who cut in from the right, skipping past a couple of challenges, and fired in off the far post.

Vaughan then got his first goal, rising highest to meet Hammill's delicate chip and directing his header into the corner.

He doubled his tally just before half time, controlling a through ball well and firing past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

Shortly after the break, Vaughan completed his hat-trick, stroking a penalty into the corner for his seventh goal of the season after Simon Francis had fouled Jake Carroll.

Marc Pugh managed a consolation goal for the visitors with 20 minutes to go, finding space at the far post and heading past the goalkeeper.

Adam Clayton added to Bournemouth's misery though, smashing into the top corner from long range to make it 5-1.

That was the end of the scoring as the home side secured an emphatic victory.
