Assem Allam slams FA over failed Hull Tigers name change

Assem Allam claims that Football Association members are not qualified to make a decision over his proposed plan to re-brand Hull City to a more marketable name.

Hull City chairman Assem Allam has labelled Football Association chiefs as "amateur" after seeing a second name-change proposal rejected.

The Egyptian tycoon's plan to re-brand the Championship outfit as Hull Tigers was knocked back once again by the governing body last month.

Allam, who believes a change of name will help make the club more marketable across the world, received the backing of Greg Dyke but 70% of the FA Council members voted against the move.

Speaking to The Sun, Allam has hit out at those in charge, saying: "Greg Dyke is a very nice man, very experienced and very professional. He understood what I was trying to do.

"People involved with the Premier League understood what I was trying to do, because they are global. It is a sad day that most of the people who make the decisions are amateurs and do not have this understanding.

"They are local, not global. Premier League decisions should be made by the Premier League Council."

Allam's plan to ditch the Humberside club's traditional name first surfaced in 2013.
