Leicester City beat Burnley to extend Championship lead

Leicester City extend their lead over Burnley at the top of the Championship by beating them 2-0.

Leicester City have handed Burnley their first home defeat in over a year, winning 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Championship.

The league's top two produced an even game in which Leicester always had that little bit extra, shown by two goals towards the end of either half.

Just a week after losing top scorer Danny Ings to an ankle injury, Burnley were forced to withdraw Sam Vokes with just eight minutes gone and were on the back foot for much of the first half.

After half-chances for Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy, as well as a strong penalty appeal turned down, Leicester finally took the lead on 35 minutes when David Nugent collected the ball from Chris Wood and sidestepped two defenders before curling the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Burnley responded well but found themselves behind at half time.

They could have been two down within five minutes of the restart but unfortunately for Anthony Knockaert, his dipping volley bounced back off the crossbar.

The hosts immediately went up the other end and fashioned a good chance of their own but Scott Arfield shot tamely at the goalkeeper after losing his marker inside the box.

Leicester were pretty comfortable thereafter before doubling their lead in explosive fashion with 12 minutes to go. Another 25-yard volley, this time from Wood and this time finding the top corner gave the visitors a deserved win.
