Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed how Daniel Sturridge suffered a fresh injury blow just days before making his first-team comeback from a thigh problem.
The 25-year-old is due to be out of action for two to three weeks after picking up a calf injury in training.
Prior to that, the striker was sidelined for seven weeks after suffering a thigh problem while training with the England team.
"He was returning from his thigh injury and medically everything was fine with that," Rodgers told the club's official website. "Then, on his very first morning, he was jogging around the pitch in the warm-up - there was no action, no striking of a ball.
"He was jogging around the field and then in the actual warm-up, he felt his calf a little tight. The scan shows that there is a little bit of damage in his calf."
News of Sturridge's injury setback came to light before Liverpool's narrow 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Sunday.
