Tottenham Hotspur duo Son Heung-min and James Maddison remain doubts for Saturday's clash with Liverpool in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has admitted that Son Heung-min and James Maddison are not certainties to be involved in Saturday's clash with Liverpool.

Son was forced off in the latter stages of the North London derby at Arsenal last weekend due to a minor issue, while Maddison jarred his knee before his withdrawal.

There was initially concern surrounding Maddison considering the impact on his joint, but a scan earlier this week is believed to have brought good news.

Maddison and Son were able to train alongside their teammates on Friday, but Postecoglou stopped short of guaranteeing their involvement against the Merseyside giants this weekend.

Summer arrival Brennan Johnson, meanwhile, is a definite absentee due to the issue that he picked up in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

"Brennan will miss out this week," Postecoglou told Tottenham's official media. "It's nothing too serious but it is enough to keep him out (of the Liverpool clash).

"Madders and Sonny trained today but we will see they how they pull up from training but they both got through everything we needed them to get through, but it will depend on how they pull up."

Maddison has been in impressive form for Spurs this season following his arrival from Leicester City, scoring twice and providing four assists in seven appearances in all competitions.

Son, meanwhile, has scored five goals in seven appearances, including both of Tottenham's efforts in the draw at Arsenal.

Spurs will be aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season this weekend, with the capital outfit currently fourth in the table on 14 points.

"They (Liverpool) probably bring something different from any other team in the league in the way they play and the manner they go about things," Postecoglou said during Friday's press conference.

"It'll be a really good test for us to try to impose our football on a team that's fairly unique in the way they play the game. Jurgen [Klopp] is an outstanding manager, he's one of the managers I think it's fair to say who has made an impact on the competition, not just his club.

"Because when he came in, with the way Liverpool went about things, he challenged quite a few of the conventions about the Premier League and introduced a new style of play that others have followed. It's a great test for where we are at the moment in terms of our development."

Tottenham have won four and drawn two of their six league games this season, scoring 15 goals and conceding seven in the process.
