Jurgen Klopp jokes about motivating his Liverpool players towards the end of their 2-0 win at Crystal Palace with the help of some "angry manager" words.

Jurgen Klopp has joked about motivating his Liverpool players towards the end of their 2-0 win at Crystal Palace with the help of some choice "angry manager" words.

James Milner gave the Reds a lead on the stroke of half time thanks to a penalty won by Mohamed Salah, who was brought down by Mamadou Sakho.

Despite a nervy finale for the visitors at Selhurst Park, Sadio Mane wrapped up the points in injury time when he ran from his own half before rounding Wayne Hennessey to score.

"We can play better football," Klopp told BBC Sport. "It was a really intense first half so it wasn't easy to make the right decisions. They had their moments. I know we have to play much better but tonight I'm absolutely fine with that.

"In [the closing stages of the game] the fuel is really low and maybe the players need a bit of help from an angry manager - 'run or I will kill you' - and they did that with a fantastic counterattack.

"I am not interested in sending statement to Manchester City or anyone else. I want to win football games and that's what we did tonight."

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday, welcoming Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield for an evening kickoff.
