Liverpool will hold further talks with Roberto Martinez on Tuesday after making an offer to the Spaniard over the managerial vacancy.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has claimed that manager Roberto Martinez has been made an offer to take over at Liverpool following talks with the club's American owners.

The Spaniard travelled to Miami yesterday for discussions with members of Fenway Sports Group, including John W Henry.

Whelan has confirmed that further talks are due to take place on Tuesday, where the 38-year-old Latics boss is expected to make a final decision on his future.

"[Martinez] went yesterday to Miami and had a very, very constructive meeting with the owner of Liverpool [and] they are going to talk [again] on Tuesday," Whelan told Sky Sports News. [I think] he's been made an offer - Roberto has agreed to consider it.

"He's also aware that I said to him that I'd love to keep [him] but I need a decision by Wednesday or Thursday next week one way or another. I think he's considering it and I think he'll give it fair consideration. Hopefully he'll stay with us but if he goes to Liverpool we'll wish him good luck.

"I think what he has said is 'thank you for your offer but I only work under the following rules and I have to have complete control of football'. I think he's gone back to the Americans to ask if they will give him complete control of football."

The Reds have been in the hunt for a new boss since sacking Kenny Dalglish last week.
