Mamadou Sakho never considered leaving Liverpool

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho insists that he never thought about leaving the club when he was not playing regularly under Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has insisted that he never considered leaving the club even when he was struggling to break into the starting lineup.

The France international found himself behind Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren in the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers, making just three Premier League starts this season before the Northern Irishman was sacked in October.

However, he has established himself as a first-team regular under Jurgen Klopp and is enjoying his place in the starting XI.

"It's nice to be in the team. With [Klopp] it is going differently for me. The former coach (Rodgers) made his choices. I accepted them. I was always myself and smiled in training," Sakho told French radio station RMC.

"In football, a lot can happen off the field. The most important thing is to stay focused and serious. Honestly, [I never thought about leaving]. I've always felt good at Liverpool. When I was in France, I didn't understand the real depth of this club's history.

"Once I set foot inside, it was fabulous. There's a lively atmosphere. The team is young and talented. I really like this city, these fans and this magnificent stadium. I am someone who likes stability, so it suits me perfectly."

Liverpool currently sit ninth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of the Champions League places.
