Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly worried that Ange Postecoglou could be tempted into becoming the next manager of Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur allegedly fear that Ange Postecoglou could be tempted by a move to Liverpool.

Earlier this year, Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be ending his long-term association with the Merseyside giants at the end of the season.

With Liverpool challenging for four pieces of silverware this season and strong favourites to return to next season's Champions League, Klopp will be leaving the club in favourable conditions.

Since his recent revelation, a number of high-profile names have inevitably been linked with a switch to Anfield, including Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard - a former Liverpool midfielder - is yet to lose a game all season and has established a five-point lead for Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

However, such has his reputation been enhanced that other teams are monitoring the situation, including another ex-club in the shape of Bayern Munich who may see their Bundesliga dominance brought to an end after 11 successive titles.

As it stands, there has been no indication whether Alonso will be tempted elsewhere, and it throws open the possibility of Liverpool having to seriously consider other alternatives.

According to Football Insider, there are concerns behind the scenes at Spurs that Liverpool could make an approach for Postecoglou.

The Greek-Australian is currently performing above initial expectations since his arrival from Celtic, keeping Spurs in the top four of the Premier League for much of the season.

Not only do the North Londoners currently sit in fourth place in the table, just seven points adrift of Liverpool, Postecoglou has put together a team that are consistently producing attractive football.

Speaking to Football Insider's 'Insider Track Podcast', transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke said that Spurs are "absolutely concerned Ange could go" to Liverpool at the end of the season.

Postecoglou has a contract with Spurs until the end of 2026-27, yet it remains to be seen whether Liverpool or any other interested party would be prepared to pay the necessary compensation to secure his services.

Furthermore, Postecoglou is only two transfer windows into his project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with his team currently on course to deliver their targets for the season.
