Manchester City midfielder Rodri says that it is "a dream come true" to win the Champions League.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri said that it is "a dream come true" to win the Champions League, with his goal proving to be the difference in Saturday night's final against Inter Milan.

The Spain international netted the only goal of the contest in the 68th minute, as the Citizens completed a treble by securing the European Cup.

The midfielder opened up on the success in the immediate aftermath and said that his side "gave everything" in a bid to secure a first Champions League crown for Man City.

Inter had chances during an even match, with Romelu Lukaku having a brilliant opportunity to level late on from a header, but Man City goalkeeper Ederson made the save.

"Emotional. A dream come true. All these guys around here [points to the fans] waited I don't know how many years. They deserve, we deserve," Rodri told BT Sport after the match.

"The last years we were so close. I just want to thank everyone. It wasn't easy. What a team we faced, the way they defend and counter-attack.

"We gave everything... finals are like this. You can't expect to play well as always. Emotions and nerves are there. We competed like animals.

"We want more. More ambition. It's a dream. This moment will never happen again. We hope next year but we deserve to celebrate. All of these players who made the club big, [lists players like Sergio Aguero and David Silva] this one is for them."

A famous season has also seen Man City win the Premier League and the FA Cup, beating Manchester United 2-1 in the final of the latter last weekend.

Head coach Pep Guardiola has now won the treble for the second time in his managerial career and has become the first boss to manage that feat with two different clubs, having also done it with Barcelona in 2008-09.

Meanwhile, Man City have become the sixth English club to win the European Cup/Champions League, following Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United and Nottingham Forest.

The Citizens thrashed RB Leipzig in the last-16 stage of the competition before overcoming Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

Inter's position in the final was a surprise; the Coppa Italia holders had made it difficult for Man City during a cagey game, but Rodri's strike proved to be enough to secure a famous win for the Manchester club.
