Marcus Rashford scored a 25-yard screamer to break the deadlock for Manchester United against Manchester City this afternoon.
The 26-year-old, who earlier this week released a public rebuttal to recent criticism over his form and commitment, broke the deadlock in thunderous fashion after only eight minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City had dominated possession up to that point, with United's opener coming from their first meaningful attack of the match.
Bruno Fernandes collected a long kick forward from Andre Onana before cutting back and laying the ball off for Rashford, who let fly with a stunning first-time effort from range.
The ball crashed in off the underside of the crossbar, with Man City goalkeeper Ederson unable to get anywhere near it.
There was a brief VAR check regarding a possible offside against Fernandes, but Nathan Ake had dropped deeper in the defensive line than his other defenders to play the Portuguese playmaker on.
