Leicester City are reportedly confident that Manchester United will not be able to match their £80m asking price for James Maddison this summer.

Leicester City are reportedly confident that they will be able to hold off any interest from Manchester United in signing James Maddison this summer.

The Red Devils have been tracking the 23-year-old's progress for more than a year and are understood to have been particularly impressed by his performances this season, with Maddison helping Leicester up to third place in the Premier League table.

United's primary midfield transfer target for when the window reopens is Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish, but should they fail in their pursuit of him then they view Maddison as a backup option.

However, the Manchester Evening News reports that Leicester are confident United will not be able to meet their £80m asking price in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ed Woodward has already warned that mega-money deals will be unlikely in the upcoming window, despite United continuing to be linked with Jadon Sancho.

Maddison has also publicly declared that he is happy at the King Power Stadium and has no intention of leaving the club this summer.

The England international, whose Leicester contract runs until 2023, has had a hand in 12 goals from 35 appearances this season.
