Bastian Schweinsteiger has said that it was a "big surprise" to receive a warm welcome from Manchester United's fans after joining the club from Bayern Munich this summer.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who is the first German player to join the club, signed a three-year deal with Louis van Gaal's side last month.
The World Cup winner told German publication Bild: "For me, it was a big surprise to see how many supporters welcomed me with warmth and enthusiasm at the opening league game against Tottenham at Old Trafford. It gave me goosebumps.
"I can promise I'll do everything I can using all my experience to try and help the club to reach the same international level as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern.
"I play now for Manchester United. It's possible that over the next three years we'll meet in the Champions League, that would be a really good clash."
Schweinsteiger has come off the bench to feature in both of United's matches in the Premier League so far this season.
