Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho eyes future move to England

Sporting Lisbon midfielder and reported Arsenal and Man United target William Carvalho admits that he wants to play for a Premier League club in the future.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has revealed that he hopes to one day play in the Premier League or La Liga.

The Portugal international was linked with both Manchester United and Arsenal in the summer, but a transfer failed to materialise.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal may return with a bid for him in the January transfer window, but Carvalho has revealed that no clubs have yet met his release clause.

"I would not say I was disappointed [to stay], but despite being very happy at Sporting, we all have ambitions and I hope one day to be playing in the best leagues in the world - the English or Spanish," Carvalho told the official magazine of the Portuguese Football Federation.

"It did not happen this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have been doing for sure that sooner or later it will happen. I understand the proposals, but I think that there was no value for the clause and therefore they have been refused."

The 22-year-old has been on the books at Sporting since 2005.
