Jose Mourinho 'has four summer targets'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly identifies four key areas to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified four areas in which he wishes to strengthen his squad this summer.

The Red Devils have just the FA Cup remaining as their one shot at silverware this season following their shock exit to Sevilla in the Champions League and a title race that has been dominated by their fierce rivals Manchester City.

Although some members of the United hierarchy are alleged to have serious concerns over Mourinho's management style, the Portuguese is thought to have the backing of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the pair have already discussed transfer plans for next season.

According to The Independent, Mourinho wants four new players and is prepared to sacrifice seven in order to make that happen, with a new centre-half partner for Eric Bailly his top priority.

Also on the wishlist are a new controlling midfielder as well as a potential new goalkeeper should David de Gea depart the club for Real Madrid, with Toni Kroos potentially moving in the opposite direction.

The newspaper also says that United are drawing up "contingency plans" to replace Paul Pogba if the player's relationship with Mourinho continues to be strained.

Mourinho is thought to have spent more than £300m since he took over at Old Trafford in 2016.
