Manchester United have reportedly overtaken Manchester City in the race to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly during this summer's transfer window.
The Senegal international has allegedly made it clear to his Italian club that he is open to a move away ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Both United and City have been credited with an interest in the defender, but according to La Repubblica, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have moved ahead of their rivals.
The report claims that the 20-time English champions are prepared to pay in the region of €80m (£71.5m) for the 29-year-old, who is also thought to be interesting Everton.
Koulibaly has had his injury problems this season but has still featured on 21 occasions for Napoli in all competitions, including twice against Liverpool in the group stages of the Champions League.
The Senegalese's current deal with Gennaro Gattuso's side runs until the end of the 2022-23 season.
