Peter Beardsley: Give Mike Ashley support

Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley urges fans to give owner Mike Ashley respect for turning the club around.

Newcastle United legend Peter Beardsley has urged fans to give owner Mike Ashley support for turning the club around.

The controversial businessman recently angered locals when he renamed St James' Park as the Sports Direct Arena.

However, a number of signings have helped the sixth-placed Magpies challenge for European football this season.

"[Ashley] is different class, I have to say," said Beardsley.

"Unfortunately, he hasn't been given the support he deserves, but now people are starting to realise the club is on an even keel and going in the right direction.

"We have got a brilliant owner, a brilliant managing director, a brilliant manager, and if you have got those three who are really positive, you must have a chance."

Beardsley currently works for Newcastle as a football development manager.
