Rob Elliot has admitted that he is desperate to take the opportunity to produce his best form during a rare spell in the Newcastle United team.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is set to make his first appearance in the Premier League season against Southampton on Saturday as a replacement for Tim Krul, who could be on the sidelines for up to three weeks with a knee injury.
"I'm gutted for him but I have to take my opportunity now," Elliot told the club's official website. "Hopefully I can get as many games as possible and try to do well for the team. I'm looking forward to it.
"I've had to be more patient this year but I feel like I've improved a lot as a goalkeeper, even though I haven't been playing.
"It's nice to know I will get a few games at least, so I can build on my performances and hopefully improve week on week."
Elliot joined Newcastle from Charlton Athletic in 2011.
