PSV Eindhoven have fired coach Fred Rutten and replaced him with Phillip Cocu until the end of the season.
Rutten had made it known recently that he intended to leave the club at the conclusion of the current campaign.
However, following a recent 6-2 loss at home to FC Twente, the PSV board have decided to speed up that procedure.
Cocu, who had been a part of Rutten's backroom team, has been appointed coach on an interim basis.
The former Dutch international had two playing spells with Eindhoven, amassing over 200 appearances in the process.
