Report: Rangers to sign Rob Kiernan from Wigan Athletic

Rob Kiernan is reportedly close to joining Rangers from Wigan Athletic after a move to Birmingham City fell through.

Mark Warburton has closed in on his first signing in charge of Rangers, with Wigan Athletic's Rob Kiernan reportedly on the verge of a move to Glasgow.

The 24-year-old had been close to joining Birmingham City permanently before the Blues reportedly pulled out of a deal because of problems with the player's medical.

Kiernan made 18 appearances for Wigan last term before joining Birmingham on loan for the final three months of the season.

Despite the Blues' decision not to sign him, Rangers are believed to not be so worried and ready to part with £200,000, according to PA.

Warburton has coached the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international at both Watford and Brentford in the past.
