Danny Guthrie has admitted that he is excited "to be part of something special" after completing a move to Reading.
The 25-year-old's Newcastle United contract expired on June 30, and he has revealed that a meeting with Royals boss Brian McDermott made his decision easy.
"As soon as I met the manager and [director of football] Nick Hammond my mind was made up - it was a no-brainer. Everything just fell into place rather quickly and I soon knew that this was the club that I wanted to play for," he told Sky Sports News.
"It feels brilliant, it's a great honour and I'm excited. I saw the team play last year and I was impressed. It's a fantastic family club which is well run. It's really exciting to be part of something special. We're all gearing up to get ready back into training so it's exciting times.
"My aims are to play well, do my best for Reading. The Premier League is where everyone wants to be so the challenge this season will be to make sure we're still in there. I just want to do well and do my bit. I class myself as an experienced player and I ask more of myself each year."
Reading won the Championship last season.
