Real Madrid reportedly agreed to sell James Rodriguez to Inter Milan on the final day of the summer transfer window, but the attacker did not want to leave the Bernabeu.
The Colombian international scored 17 times in 46 appearances during his first season at the Spanish club, but struggled for first-team action last term and also started the new campaign out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.
The 25-year-old stayed at the Bernabeu in the summer despite a host of speculation, but according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid had a deal in place for the attacker to leave, only for the player to reject the interest.
Manchester United have been linked with a January move for James, who has managed just one goal in seven appearances for his club this season.
