Zinedine Zidane says that "it was important" Cristiano Ronaldo got off the mark with his first league goal of the campaign for Real Madrid in the 2-1 win against Getafe.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted that it was vital Cristiano Ronaldo got off the mark with his first league goal of the campaign against Getafe.

The Portugal international, restricted to just four top-flight outings so far this season due to a lengthy ban, scored a late winner in the 2-1 win at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday afternoon.

Karim Benzema also found the net for the first time this season in La Liga earlier in the match, but Los Blancos were made to work hard for their eventual victory as Getafe pegged them back in the second half.

Zidane was ultimately happy with his side's display, telling reporters: "It was important that [Ronaldo] scored his first [in the league], from there we will see, but I am happy for him and for Benzema.

"We have suffered a lot but it is normal. We know that in La Liga we are going to suffer in all the matches because there is a rival that wants to put you in difficulties.

"The good thing is that we played a good match, the first half was phenomenal with how we had the ball and with our chances. We have achieved the three points, which is what was most important."

Ronaldo also has four goals to his name in two Champions League appearances in 2017-18, netting twice against both APOEL and Borussia Dortmund.
