Karim Benzema has reportedly demanded a contract extension at Real Madrid with a wage reflecting his importance to Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman, who has 228 goals for the club in all competitions, is now in his 10th season at the Bernabeu and remains an important member of the squad.
Benzema has impressed not just with his goal tally this season, scoring six goals in seven La Liga appearances, but also the seniority with which he leads the line.
According to a report from Spain, Benzema wants a new wage package exceeding that of Gareth Bale, who has offered, in the striker's opinion, comparatively little to the team in recent years.
Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Eden Hazard and Sergio Ramos are all also said to earn more than Benzema, whose current deal expires in 2021.
The 31-year-old wants a contract until 2023 or 2024, which is when he plans to end his career at the highest level.
