Sebastien Corchia came close for the visitors early on, but saw his effort kept out by Julien Faussurier.
The hosts had a chance of their own soon after, but Gaetan Charbonnier put his strike just wide of the post.
With four minutes of the first half left to play the visitors broke the deadlock as Corchia slotted home Faussurier's cross.
Reims pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but Sochaux held on to move within two points of 17th placed Guingamp in the Ligue 1 table.
