Vladimir Petkovic: 'Lazio will neutralise Tottenham Hotspur'

Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic targets victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.

Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic has his sights set on victory over Tottenham Hotspur when the two sides meet in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Bosnian coach said that his team is planning to "neutralise" Spurs' style of play with their own brand of attacking football.

"For me it is important to play on an international level, because it can help the team to grow by facing a different reality.

"The difference in football can only be positive and seen as a learning experience," he explained in his pre-match press conference.

"We will respect our opponents, but try to seize the initiative so, we will neutralise Tottenham's style of football by imposing our own tactics."

Petkovic went on to say that Lazio are aware of the threat Spurs pose in the midfield, but are well equipped to deal with it.

"Tottenham do not just have strength down the flanks, but also through the middle where they are very physical," he added.

"They're dangerous on set plays. Of course, playing wide is their main strength, but my players know that and will behave accordingly."

Lazio have taken maximum points from their three Serie A games this season, while Spurs recorded their first Premier League win of the campaign last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Reading.
