Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli hails teammate Kyle Walker-Peters after the right-back made his Premier League debut against Newcastle United.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has branded Kyle Walker-Peters "a fantastic player" after the right-back was handed his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

An injury to Kieran Trippier opened up a spot in the Spurs XI on the opening weekend of the new season, and head coach Mauricio Pochettino handed Walker-Peters the chance to impress.

Alli has said that he was "really happy" for the 20-year-old, who played his part in Tottenham's 2-0 victory against the Magpies.

"[Walker-Peters] is a fantastic player. He's been working really hard in training. You're at a club with a manager where, if you play well in training and you work hard, you know you are going to get your opportunity to play in the Premier League," Alli told Spurs TV.

"He's done it and he took it and it was a great performance by him, so there is going to be some competition now. I am really happy for him."

Walker-Peters, who is a former England Under-20 international, joined Tottenham at the age of 16.
