Andre Villas-Boas says that Luka Modric could be integrated back into the Tottenham Hotspur team, despite reports of an impending move to Real Madrid.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has claimed that wantaway midfielder Luka Modric may still have a place in the squad, as long as he is willing to work up his fitness.

The Croatia international, who has been widely tipped to join Real Madrid this summer, was left out of the North London club's pre-season tour of America, which subsequently led to disciplinary action.

"Luka is doing double sessions on his own in London," said Villas-Boas. "When we get back to London I will give some of the players some time off and when we return to sessions we will decide what is best for Luka to do.

"He is a Tottenham player obviously, but he has to be in good mental condition to return to our training because his colleagues are one level up in terms of preparation and fitness.

"So we will have to setup a program for him that gradually brings him up to the team, that gradually brings him to fitness level and then see what happens."

Recent reports have suggested that Spurs and Madrid are struggling to agree a fee for the playmaker.
