Tottenham Hotspur to splash out £38m to sign Mauro Icardi?

A report claims that Tottenham Hotspur could pay close to £40m to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to pay £38m to land striker Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan this summer, according to a report.

The 23-year-old, previously linked with a move to Manchester United, is said to have been the subject of talks between Spurs and the Italian club last week.

Inter president Erick Thohir claimed in May that he had no intention of allowing the Argentina international to leave San Siro, although it is claimed by The Sun that the Serie A side will now listen to offers.

A fee of close to £40m will likely have to be offered to lure Icardi away from the Italian capital, however, while Atletico Madrid and rivals Arsenal are also thought to have shown an interest in the coveted poacher.

Icardi scored 16 league goals last season to help Inter finish fourth in Serie A.
