Mark Hughes has admitted that it was a delight to get the opportunity to work with Peter Odemwingie so soon after missing out on the opportunity to sign the forward.
The Stoke City manager failed in an attempt to bring Odemwingie to the club last summer, before eventually completing a deal with Cardiff City in January which saw Kenwyne Jones move in the opposite direction.
"I tried to get him in the summer and unfortunately he went to Cardiff," Hughes told members of the press. "But when you miss out on players you keep an eye on them and wonder if something might come off in the future.
"I didn't anticipate the opportunity would come up quite so quickly but we got him and he's had an immediate impact.
"When the possibility of getting Peter in came up we were more than happy with that."
