Mario Gaspar, Cedric Bakambu goals give Villarreal victory over Sevilla

Villarreal move up to fourth in La Liga after goals from Mario Gaspar and Cedric Bakambu secure a 2-1 win against Sevilla at the Estadio El Madrigal.

Villarreal have moved up to fourth in La Liga after goals from Mario Gaspar and Cedric Bakambu secured a 2-1 win against Sevilla at the Estadio El Madrigal.

The hosts went into the lead after 25 minutes when Spain international defender Gaspar finished after a five-man scramble in the Sevilla six-yard box.

Bakambu then doubled Villarreal's lead 15 minutes into the second half by slotting the ball into the net from close range following a low Denis Suarez cross from the left-hand side of the box.

Sevilla summer signing Fernando Llorente reduced his side's deficit with just under 15 minutes remaining, but the Red and Whites failed to cancel out both Villarreal goals.

The win leaves the Yellow Submarine just four points behind league leaders Real Madrid, while Sevilla are in ninth after their fourth defeat in 10 games this season.
