End-of-season report: West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion's results this season earned Roy Hodgson the England job. Here, Sports Mole reviews how the Baggies made it possible.

West Bromwich Albion enjoyed one of their most successful seasons under the guidance of Roy Hodgson over the past ten months.

Such results saw Hodgson handed the England job on a permanent basis, starting with Euro 2012 this summer.

Here, Sports Mole reviews the season that saw Hodgson earn the right to manage his country.

August

Three Premier League fixtures in August and three defeats for the Baggies. Manchester United, Chelsea and Stoke City all claimed maximum points from encounters with West Brom.

The Carling Cup proved a welcome distraction though, as West Brom claimed a 4-1 win over Bournemouth.

September

Peter Odemwingie scored the only goal of the game as West Brom claimed their first victory of the season at Norwich City.

It proved to be the only win of the month though, with Swansea City scoring three times past Ben Foster and Fulham holding out for a 0-0 draw.

It was also the end of the road for the Carling Cup as fellow Premier League side Everton won through 2-1.

October

Four matches and two wins were the most important statistics for the Baggies in October.

Rivals Wolves and and Aston Villa were defeated, while a 2-2 draw was achieved away at Sunderland.

However, Hodgson's former club Liverpool claimed all three points from their trip to the Hawthorns.

November

North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both defeated the Baggies in November as they began to dangerously flirt with the relegation zone.

A 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers went some way to easing those fears.

December

Successive wins over Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United proved to be crucial over the festive period as the Baggies moved clear of the relegation zone.

Draws against Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City also proved the doubters wrong.

January

Just one Premier League win in January saw the Baggies drop right back into relegation trouble.

That victory came against Stoke, while Everton, Tottenham and Norwich all claimed maximum points at the expense of West Brom.

Norwich returned to knock Hodgson's side out of the FA Cup.

February

February saw West Brom record their most important victory of the season in the eyes of their supporters. The Baggies struck five away at rivals Wolves, which cost manager Mick McCarthy his job.

Sunderland were also beaten 4-0 and Fulham were held to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

March

West Brom's only win in March came against Chelsea at the start of the month.

After that, they suffered defeats to Man United, Newcastle and Everton.

April

Victories against Blackburn, QPR and Liverpool lifted the Baggies towards the top half of the table in April.

A draw against Villa and a 4-0 loss to title hopefuls Man City did little to dampen the spirits at the Hawthorns.

May

Despite drawing 2-2 with Bolton and losing 3-2 at Arsenal in May, Hodgson ended his reign at West Brom with the club in tenth spot.
