England boss Roy Hodgson explains snub of West Ham United trio

Roy Hodgson says that West Ham United's Aaron Cresswell, Mark Noble and James Tomkins are good enough to play for England, but competition has denied them from being called up.

England manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that West Ham United trio Aaron Cresswell, Mark Noble and James Tomkins are good enough to play for the Three Lions, but competition for places has denied them from doing so.

Cresswell has been identified as a potential option at left-back following the serious injury that Luke Shaw has sustained, while Noble and Tomkins have been key in West Ham's strong start to the Premier League season.

Hodgson has said that the form of the three Hammers players has not gone unnoticed.

"Cresswell, Tomkins and Mark Noble, they are good football players who are quite capable of playing for England," London 24 quotes Hodgson as saying.

"But they face competition because luckily enough one or two others have shown they can do quite well over the last few years.

"It is all about competition and keeping an eye to make sure I am not missing anything."

West Ham are currently third in the Premier League, two points behind joint-leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
