Wigan Athletic: 'No managerial target identified'

Wigan Athletic chief executive Jonathan Jackson insists that the club have not contacted anyone over the vacant managerial position.

Wigan Athletic chief executive Jonathan Jackson has insisted that the club is nowhere near finding a new manager.

Reports since Uwe Rosler's sacking on Thursday have suggested that both Chris Hughton and Malky Mackay are in the frame for the job, but Jackson insists that no-one has been contacted regarding the role.

"The chairman Dave Whelan made it quite clear following yesterday's announcement that he did not have anyone in mind regarding finding a new manager and that it was simply a case of not being able to wait any longer to make the decision regarding Uwe's future," Jackson said in a statement.

"Since that time we have not discussed any individual or drawn up a shortlist, never mind actually contacting any potential candidates or their agents.

"As such, I can categorically deny that any one candidate is ahead of any other as regards being appointed as the next manager of Wigan Athletic."

The Latics have won just three games this season and currently lie in the Championship relegation zone.
