Romain Grosjean has admitted that he thought he might lose his race seat at Lotus for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The team confirmed yesterday that the Frenchman would be partnering Kimi Raikkonen again next year.
The 26-year-old told Autosport.com: "I was worried. It hasn't been the easiest part of the season, to get to December when all of the races are done and you are waiting for an answer.
"I had good discussions with the team owners and we tried to analyse the situation, understand it and see if we could keep the speed at where we wanted to and to score a lot of points.
"It is pretty clear, they just want me to get to the end of the races. That's all we need to do."
Grosjean failed to finish eight races in 2012, and was banned for the Italian Grand Prix after causing a crash at the start of the race in Belgium.
He finished eighth in the drivers' standings.
