Zach Johnson claims his second major title by winning The Open in a playoff at St Andrews.

American Zach Johnson has claimed his first victory at the The Open, following a three-man playoff at St Andrews this evening.

The 39-year-old finished one shot ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and three ahead of Australian Marc Leishman, who had bogied the first of the four extra holes.

World number two Jordan Spieth, who would have become the number one ranked player in the world with a win, and Jason Day finished a shot outside of the playoff in a tie for fourth.

"I'm humbled. I'm honoured to be your Open champion and your champion golfer of the year," he told BBC Sport.

"I'm humbled because of the names that are etched on this piece of metal. To have my name on the trophy is surreal."

Johnson's previous victory at a major championship came during the Masters in 2007.
