Rory McIlroy has admitted that he would jump at the chance to captain Europe in the Ryder Cup one day in the future.
The world number one delivered three points for the team in last weekend's triumph over the USA at Gleneagles.
Paul McGinley received plenty of plaudits for his approach as captain in Scotland, and McIlroy has claimed that he would use his experience of playing under the 47-year-old if he should ever be appointed skipper.
"One day when the time is right I would love to be able to captain the European team and try and lead them to victory and if I do I will take a lot out of the way Paul captained the team last week," McIlroy told reporters.
"I know Paul took a lot out of the way Bernhard Langer captained the team in 2004 and he always had a lot of admiration for the way he did it. Yes, one day. It might be 20-25 years away from now but it would be great to do. It would be a great honour."
Meanwhile, McIlroy has reiterated that Darren Clarke deserves to be captain for the 2016 tournament at Hazeltine.
